TRAI Releases 2Q Data for Indian Telecom Sector

Recently published statistics by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) show that the number of mobile subscribers in India grew 9.9% sequentially and 51.9% year-on-year during the second quarter, reaching 57.4 million. The average charge for a mobile phone call stood at 1.2 Rs, down 37% year-on-year. The number of Internet subscribers grew from 5.6 million at the end of the first quarter to 5.9 million at the end of the second quarter, registering year-on-year growth 61.8%, while broadband subscriptions increased to 399,000, sequential growth of 118%. On average subscribers used the Internet 300 minutes per month, and ARPU for Internet services stood at approximately 200 Rs.
